Credentials
I have over 40 years of experience in the field of English Literature, including working as the head of an English Department in a small private school where I taught English and English Literature for 15 years. I am the founder and director of Clarendon House Publications and have published many books; I am the preferred supplier of editing services for a number of small businesses.
Beta Reading (First Level)
I will personally read your story or novel
or collection and give you general feedback
from a reader's point of view.
This can pick up all kinds of things:
inconsistencies in pacing, leaving the reader
in too much mystery, errors in names,
technical problems...
My general feedback will enable you to
make changes in your manuscript
before having to confront sending it off to
an agent or publisher.
Cost: £2.00 to £6.00 per 1,000 words, based on seeing a 1,000 word sample first.
Beta Reading (Second Level)
I will personally read your story or novel
or collection as above, but give you
detailed feedback.
I will cover anything I find as a reader,
from technical errors through to issues
with ideas or style, in a comprehensive report
which will empower you to strengthen your work
prior to sending it off for review by an
agent or publisher.
Cost: £6.00 to £11.00 per 1,000 words, based on seeing a 1,000 word sample first.
Developmental Editing
This is where things move to the next phase:
page by page notes, suggesting not only
general changes as in the Beta Reading above
but detailed recommendations covering the
seven categories: Ideas, Characters,
Attracting Readers, Getting Emotional
Commitment, Structure, Style and Fulfilment.
Cost: £8.00 to £16.00 per 1,000 words,
based on seeing a 1,000 word sample first.
Copy Editing/Proofreading
A review of your work in minute detail,
fixing any spelling, grammar, punctuation,
clarity and/or technical issues in close
liaison with you.
Cost: £6.00 to £11.00 per 1,000 words,
based on seeing a 1,000 word sample first.
